I’ve been thinking a lot about a Tweet I saw a few weeks ago: someone’s list of things they’re not doing anymore, from “treating sleep like a luxury” to “pretending I like craft beer.” I thought it’d be fun (and useful) to do the same, so I sat down and made my own:
Reading reviews before watching a movie
Being tight when it comes to anything health-related
Wearing a Whoop (or any sleep tracker)
Letting the weather determine what I do
Working on Sundays
Getting public transport when I can cycle
Cycling when I can walk
Standing on escalators
Getting the elevator
Sleeping with my phone in the same room
Skipping dessert
Putting off going to the dentist
Arguing with strangers on the internet
Scrolling Instagram (or having it at all)
Scrolling LinkedIn (or having it at all)
Saying ‘yes’ by default
Watching/reading the news
Forgetting people’s birthdays (work in progress)
Having an opinion on everything
Finishing books I’m not enjoying
Waiting for January to start a new habit
Complaining
Keeping score in relationships
Hoarding carrier bags
Keeping clothes “just in case”
Pretending I know things I don't
Staying at parties after I want to leave
Photographing/videoing special moments
Being permanently reachable
Listening to podcasts at 2x speed
Living for the weekend
Buying the latest iPhone
Waiting for permission
Waiting until I feel ready
Using my phone while walking
Relying on my memory (instead of writing it down)
Bookmarking things I’m never going to read (to feel smart)
Building a second brain
Having a five-year plan
Following politics like a sport
Avoiding the dumb questions
Being loyal to my past self (mainly opinions)
Indulging in any form of self-pity
Answering unknown numbers
Turning hobbies into side hustles
Pretending that adults exist
Being a slave to my routine
Hiding my weirdness
Taking life too seriously

All so good. Adults are unicorns anyway
I liked this but I feel like it's a mixture of things you won't do and things you want to do disguised as negatives
